Kai Mercer died on a Tuesday. Four minutes and thirty-two seconds, then nothing. Then back.He didn’t come back the same.At first it’s small things. A vending machine. A bird. A pencil that rolls the wrong way and then rolls back. Kai tells himself it’s coincidence. He’s very convincing. He’s also completely lying to himself. When he finally accepts what he can do, he thinks he’s alone with it. He’s wrong. There’s Prim, who figured it out seven months ago and has already filled notebooks. There’s Eli, who’s been watching them both since September and carrying eleven months of silence. There’s Zoe, who can feel what’s wrong before it breaks and has been alone with it longer than any of them.Four kids. Four abilities. One park with a broken swing set. They think they’re hidden. They think they’re safe. They think the hardest part is already over. They’re wrong about all three. The Last Kid With Magic is a story about what happens after the impossible thing. About figuring out the rules nobody wrote down. About being thirteen and suddenly carrying something that doesn’t fit in a backpack or a textbook or a conversation with your parents. About finding the people who understand without having to explain. And about the woman in the dark jacket who’s been looking for them since before they even knew they existed.
