When the jump drive was invented by two young Hungarians and shared freely with the world, humanity reached for the stars. The right kind of humanity, anyway. The Eastern Europeans got the leftovers — a frozen, airless rock called Sybirak, self-funded, self-sufficient, and largely forgotten by Brussels. They survived. They adapted. And then a bored geologist named Zalewski pointed his drill at the wrong patch of frozen ground. The Predecessors left everything behind. The question is what the colonists of Slavia will do with it — and whether the rest of humanity will let them.
