When the gods of a young magical world decide to summon great minds from Earth to push civilization forward, they carefully select scientists, engineers, doctors, and leaders capable of changing history. But even gods suffer from accidents. Instead of a visionary genius, Matt Lisbon, an exhausted night shift worker from Florence, South Carolina, gets dragged into a world of muddy roads, rampant disease, struggling kingdoms, and magic hoarded by the wealthy. Stranded in a developing fantasy world with nothing but a rusty sword, a few silver coins, and access to a mysterious library containing the knowledge of Earth itself, Matt knows the truth. Human civilization was not built by heroes. As kingdoms battle monsters, nobles cling to magical privilege, and commoners struggle simply to survive, Matt simply wishes for a working shower. The gods believe they have summoned the wrong man.  But Matt might just turn this fledgling world on its head.
