This is a science-fiction novel in the space opera genre, but written largely from the perspective of aristocratic characters. As a result, the tone may feel somewhat Regency- or Victorian-inspired, with prose and dialogue that lean toward the ornate and courtly side, so it may not always be the easiest read. Since I'm still a new author, there are undoubtedly many shortcomings, and I appreciate your patience and understanding. The story centers on the conflict between a militarized aristocratic faction deeply wary of centralized imperial power, and a rising class of newly wealthy capital interests that hold the opposite view. Caught between them is a young duchess with a complicated past, who becomes the focus of both sides' attempts at influence and recruitment. At the moment, the story is somewhat dialogue-heavy, mainly because I’m still laying out the worldbuilding, and some aspects of the characterization are likewise still developing. Even so, I hope there is already certain tension and atmosphere here for readers to enjoy a first taste of the world.
