Freaks

Nathan Vellis is a sheltered 15-year-old who has spent his entire life under strict parental control, never allowed to go beyond his neighborhood. Frustrated and curious about the world he knows nothing about, he sneaks out at night in search of “reality.” Outside, Nate experiences a city far more overwhelming than he imagined—crowded streets, strange people with unnatural physical traits, and an undercurrent of danger he doesn’t understand. His brief sense of freedom quickly turns unsettling when a homeless man approaches him with a mysterious syringe containing a glowing serum, claiming it is a “Power Serum.” Before Nate can escape, the man forcibly injects him. The substance rapidly transforms his body, As Nate struggles to stay conscious, he experiences a surge of unfamiliar energy within himself before collapsing. He awakens later in a gray room with no explanation, disoriented and frightened, and is confronted by a weird girl named Jess—setting in motion his introduction to a hidden world of “Freaks,” people changed by a bizarre unknown phenomenon known as the Q Gene, as he realizes his spoiled protected life is permanently changed.
