Ro and Mel Veyr were supposed to be saving their marriage -- not the world. One night in an Alaskan glass igloo, a rare aurora event tears open the sky and drops them into Veydris, a frozen wilderness governed by a magical System called the Concordance. No welcome party. No tutorial. No way home. The System classifies everything: skills, tiers, threats. And right now, it classifies Ro and Mel as unregistered, unprotected, and unauthorized. In Veydris, people without classification have no rights. The guilds want to rank them. The empire wants to own them. And something ancient and damaged inside the System itself has taken a very specific interest in Mel. Ro was a burned-out project manager with a talent for cold-weather survival. Now he's developing frost magic and spatial abilities he doesn't understand, driven by an instinct to protect Mel that the System seems to be encouraging -- for reasons it won't explain. Mel was a speech-language pathologist who saw patterns in everything. Now she's seeing the architecture of magic itself, and the broken intelligence behind the System is whispering to her like a patient who needs help but can't quite say the words. They have a wolf pup made of aurora light, a bond the System didn't authorize, and each other. It's going to have to be enough.
