Every adventure starts somewhere. For Karl, it began with a job at The Overstocked Edge. At least he thinks he works there. He has a name tag, which is encouraging. He doesn’t have a paycheck, which is less so. Karl doesn’t remember orientation or even an interview, but the shelves need stocking, and the merchandise was unlikely to do it on its own—actually, it might if it wanted to.
Karl is, by his own quiet, unshakeable confidence, very good at his job. But after a strange encounter with HR, he’s not sure he has a job anymore. He does, however, have a box labeled Chaos.
This should be concerning. Karl is not concerned. He wants a milkshake. And googly eyes for his new pet, Sentient Tumbleweed.
These are the adventures, the trials, the uncertain, possibly legendary, absurd stories of Karl, along with unsuspecting friends who have absolutely no idea what they’re doing. These tales still happen anyway.
Along for the ride is a fire-wielding friend racing against a destiny he can’t escape, twins chasing quests they didn’t accept, a professionally lost tour guide, a monster hunter trying to escape a labyrinth, a clipboard with a paperclip that keeps interrupting with, “I see you're trying to fight a monster. Would you like help with that?” and you've got a clearance aisle full of chaos nobody asked for and everybody needs.
Welcome, Traveler, to a world of discounted adventures where strange things are afoot, coworkers turn into chickens with boxing gloves, and Karl. He exists. Things happen around him.
