Tip drinks to forget. The names, the faces, the weight of a legend he never wanted — Demise, Knight of the Broken Battalion, Prince of Death. The world calls him a hero. He knows what his hands have done. When the 8th Champion failed at his Gate, millions died. Cities fell. A continent fractured. Tip survived, and after the death of his love and the Broken Battalion he has spent every waking hour since trying to disappear into the bottom of a bottle. When a young survivor and an old veteran drag him from his stupor, Tip finds himself on a march toward the City of the First. There, the Vizier—a Behemoth Blessed who seized power and executed a city's worth of innocents during the Champion's fall—hoards the Saint Relics, ancient weapons that may be the missing key to ending the 9th Holy War tearing the world apart. He travels with an extravagant group. A boisterous bard carrying a strange Blessing. A renowned thief who abandons wealth to walk the path of the Warrior. A proud priestess blind to the darkness in her faith. A traumatized shepherd boy bearing a destiny far greater than himself. And the old man who set it all in motion.
