After the world ends in ash, not fire, the survivors do not rebuild a civilization—they submit to one. While Baldur gathers the living and teaches them order, law, and the sacred necessity of survival, Loki descends into Hel’s realm to write what the new world would rather forget: grief, contradiction, love, ruin, and the names of the dead. Between them, humanity is remade. One god binds. One god remembers. In the first settlement after Ashfall, peace comes at a cost. The people live beneath the Hum, a quiet pressure that smooths thought, desire, and sorrow into obedience. But when Cain uncovers a strange black shard buried in the wastes, something ancient stirs—something older than Baldur’s laws and harder to silence. For a few stolen moments, the shard breaks the Hum’s hold, and Cain’s brother Abel begins to remember himself. What follows is not only a murder, but the birth of doctrine. As grief is shaped into scripture and private suffering is rewritten as public warning, the dead become useful, memory becomes dangerous, and truth begins to fracture. Far below, in the dark halls of Hel, Loki’s wall starts to move on its own, as if history itself is learning how to choose what survives. ASHFALL is a dark mythic fantasy about the making of civilization, the weaponization of memory, and the terrible stories a wounded world tells in order to live.
