In a city with a hidden architecture of power, Detective Scales has a gift — touch anything and its history becomes hers. It makes her good at her job. It also makes her dangerous. When a body turns up with words typing themselves across it and the trail leads straight into her own precinct, Scales finds herself drawn into something far larger than a murder — a conflict between ancient forces, forbidden alliances, and a rogue unlike anything the city has seen.Someone is building something new. And they're willing to burn the truth down to do it.Justice asks a simple question with no easy answer: when the system meant to protect people is the thing they need protection from — who decides what justice actually looks like?
