THE BOTTOMLESS WELL
A NOVEL OF SILENCE, CORRUPTION, AND THE DEAD THAT NEVER STAYS BURIED.
A BLACKWATER COUNTY STORY.
Summer, 1973. Blackwater County sits low against the Gulf where the shrimp boats are dying, the refinery owns half the horizon, and storms roll in heavy enough to drown roads overnight. Folks survive by minding their business, trusting the sheriff, and keeping certain stories buried where they belong.
Thirteen-year-old Eli Mercer learns how fragile that silence really is the night he follows his uncle into the swamp and watches something disappear into an abandoned well.
After that, Blackwater stops feeling like home.
Church parking lots become places where fear smiles politely. Deputies linger too long on quiet roads. Missing people turn into rumors faster than investigations. And the deeper Eli looks into the county around him, the more he realizes the most dangerous men are not the ones who hide in the dark — they are the ones everybody trusts in daylight.
Because in Blackwater County, survival has always depended on knowing when not to ask questions.
And some wells do not stay buried forever.
