A ten-year-old dwarf hides inside a cast-iron cauldron because his world has just ended. All his life, Randagar has marinated in the airless halls of the deep. Then his mother steals him from the stone and carries him into the open sky to her proto-elven kin, who treat mischief as a family virtue. Normal families share one kind of peace. Strange ones each keep their own kind of chaos. And Randagar has landed in the strangest of all. Every one of them is wild, and no two are wild alike. Their craft is simple: miracles traded for delicacies. Randagar has never known anything but stone. Now he must learn the impossible arts of his sky-born kin and prove that a humble dwarf of reason can surpass them. Or perhaps he will hide in his cauldron until the wicked Magpie Seeresses grow bored, seal the lid, and light the fire. The Geometry of Miracles is the first book of The Price of Power: a science fantasy of miracles shaped by evolution, kindled in the mitochondria, bound by physics, and still waiting to become true magic.
