Grand Magus, Wooden Sword

This is Choco and I am currently building the world of Musashi in Grand Magus, Wooden Sword. It's the first book in what I plan to be a series. I have always been a fan of fantasy worlds where there are humans, elves, beastfolk, and many other races. That's the kind of world I want Shinkenkai to be. It will be chaotic, messy, sometimes weird, but definitely fun. If you join me and my stories, you will be supporting me in my dream to pursue this gig, that I do on the side after my long 12-hour shifts, full time. And perhaps I conquer my fear of small talk and everything that involves socialization. Yeah, that's definitely one of the goals. But first, be a successful writer. Not literally. Well… sometimes literally. But mostly it’s the clan wars. The Serpent and Lotus alliances have been sharpening their blades for years, waiting for the Demon Lord’s return like they’ve got a bad feeling about something and can’t shake it. Meanwhile, Musashi is practicing his posture. He’s twelve. He wants a sword. That’s it. That’s the whole ambition. A sword, maybe a decent meal, and for Sensei to stop hitting him with a stick for five consecutive minutes. What he gets instead is… a stick. Not just any stick though. The stick has opinions. Extremely loud opinions, delivered at a volume completely inappropriate for an inanimate object, about everything from Musashi’s footwork to his attitude to the frankly offensive way he uses its hilt to scratch his lower back. “I WAS CARVED FROM THE WORLD TREE! I HAVE DRUNK THE BLOOD OF GODS! I HAVE FELLED KINGS AND UNMADE ARMIES AND YOU ARE USING ME TO SCRATCH YOUR LOWER BACK, YOU ABSOLUTE INFIDEL!” Yeah. It’s that kind of stick. Nobody knows how it found him. The stick certainly isn’t explaining. Fate, coincidence, cosmic joke — pick one, they’re all equally plausible in Shinkenkai. What matters is that an ancient, egotistical, catastrophically overpowered sentient weapon is now stuck living as a blunt piece of wood in the hands of a twelve year old boy who just wants to turn it into a blade. The stick would like you to know it finds this deeply offensive. Musashi would like the stick to please be quiet for like ten minutes. Neither of them is getting what they want.   Here’s what you’re in for. Clan wars, blood feuds, and the kind of rivalries that end in severed limbs and deeply held grudges. Coming of age… sort of. It’s messy. There’s a time skip. A weapon that never shuts up and is somehow always right about everything, which makes it significantly worse. High stakes. Real consequences. And somewhere underneath all of it, a kid with a wooden stick who has absolutely no idea what’s coming for him. Nobody does. That’s kind of the point.
