I wrapped up the story and set it aside, feeling like everything had fallen into place a bit too perfectly. The hero triumphed just when he should have, the villain met his downfall right on cue, and even the romance blossomed without a hitch. It was all so flawless that it didn’t quite feel genuine. I had tossed the novel aside and wasn’t expecting to see it again—let alone from the inside. Not as anyone important, of course. Just another forgettable face in the background… an academy professor who barely existed between scenes. Convenient. People rarely pay attention to things that don’t matter. That’s when I caught a glimpse of it. Every major event rested on a single moment—the exact second where everything changed. I couldn’t help myself. I reached out—and seized one. The hero never rose. The villain never fell. The story didn’t move forward… and no one questioned it. That was when I understood how this world actually works. And once I did… I kept going. It was fun, in a quiet sort of way. Adjusting things. Removing pieces. Watching everything come apart without anyone realizing why. Clean. Subtle. Almost elegant. Until something I had already taken… came back. …Which means I’m not the only one touching this story.
