The Veil has fallen, and Odessa Hawthorne is no longer just a "devil-spawn" girl locked in a tower—she is a prize of war. Abducted into the Kingdom of Hell, Odessa is forced into a deadly pact with the Devil King: use her untapped necromancy to unbind the souls stolen by the Nine Muses, monstrous deities who have usurped the balance of the afterlife. If she fails, her own soul is forfeit. To guide her through the harrowing trials of the Nine Circles, she is assigned Azrael, a lethal, muzzled warrior known as the "King’s Mutt." As they battle through frozen lakes and demonic tempests, Odessa’s hatred for her captor turns into a dangerous, soul-deep attraction. But at the gates of Purgatory, the ultimate betrayal is revealed. Azrael is no fallen soldier—he is Lucifer, the Prince of Pride, using Odessa to reclaim his stolen throne. Shattered by his lies and hunted by the remaining Muses, Odessa must decide if she can trust the King of Lies to save the world, or if she will use her power to watch him burn.
