Born in the slums of Attaleia after the disaster at Manzikert, Pozoius survived by eating poison weeds and earned the favor of Achlys, goddess of misery and poison. Now eighteen, he wields living tendrils of death that strike at a glance — a power that makes men call him demon and devil. It is now 1091 in the Eastern Roman Empire. A pagan warlord carves out his own domain in a Christian empire. A frontier lord who may one day challenge the throne itself. In the ashes of Manzikert, a new legend is born — one written in poison and blood.
