By day, he is a Wall Street trader, navigating the chaos of markets and clients. By night, he drifts into strange dreams—walking through forests and plains—only to awaken in the armor of a Roman soldier. Each time he dies in battle, he is reborn in a new era of Rome, compelled to witness the Republic’s rise, the Empire’s glory, and its inevitable collapse. Through sixty chapters, his journey unfolds: friendships forged and broken on blood-soaked fields, fleeting loves extinguished by politics, religion, and war, and rivalries that mirror Rome’s descent into corruption. From Cannae to Caesar’s assassination, from Nero’s persecutions to the fall of the Western Empire, he experiences the grandeur and decay of Rome through the eyes of ordinary men. Every death reveals another fracture—economic inequality, political violence, military overreach, cultural decadence, and the crushing weight of populism. In the final chapter, as Rome falls in 476 AD, he awakens back in modern America, realizing that his own nation may be walking the same doomed path. Dreams of Rome is both an epic reincarnation tale and a haunting allegory: a soldier’s odyssey through history that warns of the cycles of empire and decline.
