On their 20th birthday, every citizen of Alverton looks deep into their soul and discovers whether they possess magic or not. Those who do become soul wielders, bound to serve the kingdom for the rest of their lives using their power. But the people who refuse to serve are sentenced to serve a special program. There, they are forced to use their magic until it drains their soul completely, turning them into husks. Ephemeral Souls follows Atticus, Cellica, Cocopsis, Elowen, Juniper, and Tubby as they follow out their mission in the 100th C.S.R.P unit.
