by Joe Coates
After an almost disastrous final treasure hunt, farmer-turned-fortune hunter Bram Holloway decides to abandon adventuring for good and returns home to Meadowview Farm, an idyllic farmstead nestled on the edge of the bucolic village of Willowrun. He’s welcomed straight back into the easy chaos of the Holloway household, where meals are frequent, delicious and plentiful, laughter is constant, and everyone pitches in under the cheerful guidance of Bram’s older brother, Herriot. Rather than chasing another fortune, Bram decides to build himself a small log homestead on the family land; choosing to put down roots and embrace the home he left five years before. Bram’s quiet plans are complicated by the arrival of Goldie, an Elven tax inspector sent on behalf of the Queen’s Treasury to audit the sleepy district. With the weather threatening to turn, and the possibility of the snow hitting before he finishes his house, Bram stumbles across a magical object: an ancient Dwarven hand-tool, subtly enchanted to never dull and to always strike true. The Shaper doesn’t replace toil, but it might just allow him to finish what he’s started more quickly... Unfortunately, Bram’s past catches up with him when Westby, a conniving half-dwarf former treasure-hunting partner, arrives in Willowrun. How will Bram deal with these complications whilst making sure his homestead is built, snug and ready for the first snows? Follow along to find out! At its heart, Fields of Fortune delivers gentle romance, found family, hearty meals, visible progress, subtle magic, fairly low-stakes conflict, and the deep satisfaction of building a home and life rather than chasing riches of the more typical golden variety.
