In The Mirrored-City, the lights never go out. Someone has to pay for it. Kaia grew up attuned to the Vaelora, the living pulse of the world, learning to read the ground like a map and the wind like a warning. When the prestigious Institute comes calling, she and her childhood friend Helios leave for Luminis: a city of white stone and engineered warmth where science has apparently solved suffering, and the ruling Silvered class wants for nothing. To stay, Kaia must compete in Axiom, a brutal suit-based combat sport that turns her Vaelora sensitivity into an advantage and a liability in equal measure. Luminis is beautiful, efficient, and generous. Kaia starts noticing what the generosity requires. The city's wellness comes from somewhere. The Root-born refugees arriving from the south, people like her, people with the same pulse in their blood, are entering the Institute's health programme and not quite coming back the same. A girl named Mira went missing, and every explanation contradicts the last. Kaia came to Luminis to learn. What she came to learn was not was she'd expected. I will post updates every Tuesday and Friday (15:15 PM) CET (Amsterdam)
