The mystery of his origin soon unravels: Cova is an alien, a member of a militant, galaxy-spanning civilization called humanity. Certain phenomena in the universe called ascension cores have mutated human bodies, effectively making them one of the most powerful species in the firmament. To protect the Nurites he cares about, Cova must try and keep the fact that Nura is an ascension core hidden from humans. But that will be harder than he’d anticipated, given that the Nurite King is already rallying an army of mages to wage war on humanity.
