Prodigal 5

In the year 21xx, we learn that what we know of Climate Change and Solar Mechanics is wrong. Oh so very wrong. The Sun goes Red Giant billions of years ahead of schedule. Earth and the inner planets try to evacuate in the face of this threat with 9 experimental ships intent on going interstellar that haven't been completed yet, the Prodigal Project. These ships were all sabotaged and destroyed in various ways. A lowly mining hauler is pressganged into the project, becoming Prodigal 5, the last hope for humanity.
