Greenwich Village, October 1972. The wards that protect New York City from the Hollow, a realm of shadow and hunger, are failing. Something vast and ancient is pressing against the barriers, testing for weaknesses, waiting for its moment. Sansa Smith, an eighteen-year-old wizard and lifelong New Yorker, came to Grayson College seeking independence and a quiet year studying education. She expected to be invisible. Instead, she discovers she's the only wizard willing to face what's coming. Jacqueline "Foxy" Wells is a senior student and skilled fighter who survived the foster care system by learning to trust no one. Her only family is her sisters at Alpha-Tau-Eta, an all-Black sorority dedicated to political reform and social justice. She also carries gaps in her memory she can't explain, and no idea how connected she is to the city's failing magical defenses. When a chance encounter in the school gym becomes something neither of them can resist, Sansa and Foxy join forces to unravel the mystery behind the collapsing wards. But they're not the only ones hunting for answers. A secret fraternity conducts dark rituals on campus. Government agencies watch from the shadows. And the deeper they dig, the more Foxy discovers about the past that was stolen from her, and the price the city might have to pay. Freshman Year is a novel that I've wanted to write for a while, and it's still very much a work in progress. The book is divided into three acts, Fall, Winter, and Spring, and the story takes place over Sansa's freshman year at college. While at it's core, this book is an urban fantasy novel, it's also the story of these two young women falling for each other as the world gets worse and worse around them. Act 1: Fall has been written and uploaded, and I am in the process of writing Act 2: Winter now. I hope you enjoy reading and I welcome any feedback or questions you have.
