Rinna was a Seeker who died for the truth. After discovering that King Awnedde V had sold the soul of the nation to a powerful demon, Rinna was betrayed and executed by his own order. But the afterlife refused to take him. A mysterious Gray Mote, a spirit of the neutral, shifting Gray Hue, offered him a second chance: life in exchange for a "ride." Reborn six months after his death as a resurrected wraith, Rinna must now navigate a world at the brink of calamity while he hunts the King who murdered him. As Rinna and his grizzled mentor, Wereleffe, set sail on the Selunarath to dismantle the King's ritual sites, their path converges with Senna. A brilliant scholar and ward to the renowned occultist Dr. Elias Hartfield, Senna’s world is shattered when The King’s Seekers murder her mentor to suppress his knowledge falling into enemy hands. Bound together by grief and the shared threat of the King’s "Great Hunt," Rinna and Senna must form an uneasy alliance. While Rinna battles the encroaching influence of the "Rider" in his head, Senna must use her scholarly mind to learn the ancient magic of huenamancy required to sever the King's link to the Crimson Demon. Pawns of the Pact is a dark fantasy epic about the cost of vengeance, the corruption of power, and the struggle to remain human when the very soul has become a pawn to a grander plan.
