When a simple monkshood poisoning spirals across London, high-school detective Robert Steinway finds himself in a case far larger and deeper than the murder of Jedidiah McRoy. His investigation leads him into the shadows of Benedict Thorne- a man who was once his guardian, mentor, and the most feared man in Chicago. The chase for the culprit of a simple murder dissolves in a burning factory, where Steinway only just escapes with his life while Benedict vanishes into the flames. The case is officially closed with the culprit presumed dead. But on his way back home, aboard a quiet and peaceful train, Steinway finds a letter that somehow slipped into his pocket by Benedict Thorne. However, the true message is on the back of the letter, far more chilling than anything he had ever read: The Grim Reaper shall return in a hundred days. Now young detective Steinway is thrown into a countdown that he neither anticipated nor understand. All he knows is that once one hundred days have gone by, disaster will strike. However, even before a hundred days have even passed by, cases arise, some with hints to this mysterious Grim Reaper. To prepare for that day, Steinway must build up allies, learn more about the Grim Reaper, and eliminate some of the Grim Reaper's possible henchlings, while attending and keeping up at school. The clock is ticking. The Reaper is coming. And Robert Steinway must confront that question no detective wants to confront: who- or what is the Grim Reaper?

Both levers trail the field
Traffic and conversion are both below comparable stories. Cadence is the first lever — stories posting near-daily reached 25 followers 17% of the time; stories posting every few days almost never did. Get the flow going, then re-check conversion.
Benchmarks: 8,060 active Royal Road stories, percentiles within the 20–49 chapters band, cohort of 2026-07-02. Conversion is measured as followers gained per 1,000 views over the recent window.
