Alex Rivera

Twenty years ago, the System arrived on Earth with no warning, no aliens, no overseers, and no announcement. One ordinary day it simply appeared — character sheets, classes, mana, and a new layer of reality quietly integrated into the world. Humanity adapted. Classes became the new social and economic reality, creating a quiet but pervasive caste-like system based on rarity.Alex Rivera was born a few months after the System arrived. Raised by his single mother Elena in a poor south-side apartment after his father died, Alex grew up with the System as a constant, silent presence in his life.At 14 years and 5 months old, he receives his class in complete privacy: Epic – Fabricator (Babbage Line). Convinced he doesn’t deserve it and terrified of the attention it could bring, Alex hides his Epic class from everyone — including his mom and his small group of friends.Over the next three and a half years, he grows in secret, driven purely by the need to take care of his mom. He builds from scrap and desperation:A power stabilizer that evolves into an off-grid generator.A food extender that becomes a true replicator integrated with the water system.A Suppression Field to hide all mana and tech signatures from the apartment.Early messy automata (starting as creepy, “Sid’s yard” action-figure constructs that slowly become sleek and capable). The Rig — a physical powered armor suit that evolves from a clunky homemade version into a convertible backpack form for school secrecy, and eventually gains True Adaptive Shell after his class evolves. He clears only unregulated fringe instances for loot, never registers with any guild, and stays completely off the books. He develops an AI companion (starting as text-based “Oracle” and later evolving into a full holographic Ana) and creates the Vitality Field — an accelerated healing layer that works underneath the armor.By the time he turns 18 and graduates high school, Alex has become quietly powerful while still living in the shadows. He maintains decent grades, helps with chores using his automata, and tries to act normal even as the caste system quietly strains his friendships. The story reaches its climax on the evening of the System’s 20th anniversary. During an anonymous group run on a fringe instance with his small crew, Alex’s helmet cracks in the final boss fight, exposing his face on live streams. His secret is out.But the world barely has time to react.Because at that exact moment, a massive alien armada enters orbit and broadcasts globally: “The System Administrators have arrived. All planetary operations are now under our jurisdiction.”Book 1 ends with Alex standing frozen, helmet shattered, realizing his life as the invisible “Ghost Runner” is over — while the entire planet turns its attention to the sky and the arrival of the so-called Administrators.
