Earth made first contact with an alien species a decade ago. A small cohort of human specialists was recruited into the Crossroads Initiative, a controlled introduction of humanity into the broader galactic community. Hosted aboard a repurposed alien station at the edge of Kethavi space. Seren was tagged for her theoretical xenobiology background. She expected to observe. She expected to research. Then an accident stranded the human contingent, damaged the gate home, and turned a diplomatic posting into something else entirely. The series follows Seren as she improvises medicine across species boundaries, working with inadequate data, unreliable translation, and biological frameworks that don't map onto anything human. Each case file is its own problem. Collectively, they're a portrait of a woman using professional competence as a substitute for everything she's lost, in a place strange enough that she can't always tell the difference.
