The Kulay basin was built to endure, not to fight back. Agar's core missed the memo. Four hundred slime girls live in this jelly-warm pocket of old magic — translucent, gorgeous, and completely unprepared for what's coming. They train together, tease each other about whose breasts got bigger after drills, fall asleep against each other at the fire, and maintain a barrier they don't fully understand. It's a good life. The kind worth protecting. Then three scouts from the Eukaryon empire appear at the Ridge; clinical, cold, and looking at the community not as people but as an asset to be extracted. When their intelligence operative starts asking questions with too-perfect sweetness and too many teeth, Agar's ancient kra-fragment wakes up and paints a target on her back. Worse: it's waking something in the other girls too. Bodies are changing. Tiny versions of people are popping out of them at the worst possible moments. Old words nobody's said in generations are turning out to have power. Agar has a best friend who names the things she can't, a girl whose density makes her heart do stupid things, a mentor who's seen this before and won't say how it ended, and an entire community of slime girls who are about to discover they're a lot more magical than they thought. The Archaean way doesn't produce soldiers. But these girls are going to have to learn to fight their own kind — and look incredible doing it.
