READ THIS BEFORE YOU START THE STORY!!!!! This story is a literary/metafictional psychological compendium of short stories portrayed as visions called "The Phantasms," which are the dreams of an author who suffers from maladaptive daydreaming. As you can tell already, this isn't your typical story, especially for a platform like Royal Road. In fact, to some it might be a bit jarring because of the unique structure and the tonal whiplash, but please don't let that discourage you from reading. First of all, I should say I am not a psychologist or even a diagnosed maladaptive daydreamer (though I think I have MD). What the protagonist goes through is largely inspired by my own personal experience. Maladaptive daydreaming is a spectrum that will be different for different people, but from my experience, the mind of a maladaptive daydreamer is chaotic. It conjures vivid and structured daydreams with complex plots, recurring characters, and themes that help the protagonist escape from a not-so-pleasant reality. It's the kind of mind that produces a high fantasy tragedy one day and a bizarre cosmic comedy the next. And that kind of mind doesn't exactly build a neatly architected novel; it accumulates worlds, abandons them, returns to them, and wakes up mid-scene. This is the reason for some of the bold choices I made in this book. But let me not bore you with all that. I just want you to understand what you're getting into before you read this. This story is my way of exploring how a mind that struggles to exist in the world can find meaning through creation. I see it as an honest reflection of the creative process. If you try it and you don't like what you're reading, that's fine by me. At the time I'm writing this synopsis, I'm an amateur writer, and the stories in this book are early works. They were written at different times without the intention of unifying them into a single collection. This is a passion project and the first book I will successfully publish, and if anything, I sincerely hope you like it. Disclaimer: The stories in this compendium, especially the last one Team Otaku, may contain references, allusions, or inspirations drawn from real-world media, popular culture, and creative works. These references are intended as homage, parody, or fan-inspired elements and are not intended to imply any official association, endorsement, or sponsorship by the original creators or owners. With the exception of the characters in Team Otaku, all characters, organizations, events, and settings in this story are fictional, and any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead, or real events is purely coincidental. This work is purely a work of fiction and should be understood as such. Note: Please do not repost this book anywhere. I am paying attention, and I will not take theft lightly.
