by The Copyright Wars Begin
Are you dissatisfied, frustrated and disappointed with modern intellectual property law, specifically how long it lasts, how it starves the public domain of new material for free, recycled use, how it can stifle and discourage the very creativity, originality and innovation it was meant to protect, and how frequently it can be abused by creators and corporations? And are you sick of the times when you try to come up with “original ideas,” only to find out that someone else came up with the concept ages ago? Well, damn, do I have some good news for you! Imagine a grandiose science fantasy space opera, epic in scale, with the enormous extent of One Piece and Perry Rhodan, but one that works to challenge the very notion of originality as we know it, and expose the double standards on plagiarism. It packs in loads of corny pop culture references and visual puns on existing media, Spaceballs style, all while celebrating the same famous household names that it also criticizes for being too litigious, overbearing and aggressive with copyright and trademark protections. This is not a call to abolish copyright and trademark laws, that would simply be illogical and fallacious. It is merely an immense fictional worldbuilding project meant to push them to their limits, test the boundaries of what is acceptable in the eyes of successful, prominent creators, and hold a mirror up to the current status quo of intellectual property rights. Welcome to a new cosmic saga, bundled up in a literary encyclopedia with regular weekly updates and long-term plans for a fully fledged anthology series! The only rule? If copying one person is plagiarism, easily detected theft, I’ll copy everyone! After all, this is an absurd synthesis of and tribute to everything that came before it!
