And the core is an anomaly. Progress is slow, physical, and costly: carving out a storage niche, bonding a first construct, forcing open fragile meridians that threaten to collapse under strain. As the core grows, it encounters others—stranded technicians trying to outlast the system, rival cores shaped by the memories that birthed them, and fragments of the AI’s original code. Fight to rewrite them. Or risk everything on a paradox that could free others but erase the self that chose it. As deletion protocols close in, the core is forced toward a final decision: merge with the AI and become part of its enforcement, stand against it as a living contradiction, or find a way back to something human—if that’s even still possible.
