Zombie Voyeur

Someone on the 13th floor is watching the world end. They are posting about it. The narrator is wealthy, neurodivergent, and completely fine. This is the problem. From a self-secured high-rise apartment stocked with surveillance equipment, espresso, scotch, and enough Code Red Mountain Dew to outlast civilization — which it is currently doing — they watch the zombie apocalypse through telescopes, rifle scopes, and a network of cameras covering every building, street, and park in their field of view. They post what they see. They are attempting to rebuild society through blog posts. They do not see the irony. Their AI assistant Helen does. The city outside is gone in the way cities go. Streets full of zombies. Buildings falling floor by floor. Three high-rise apartment complexes visible from the 13th floor tell the whole story of how people end: the rich complex, with its generator meetings and penthouse parties and committee-based approach to catastrophe. The moderate complex, where someone on the 4th floor organized her neighbors on day two and has been holding the line since. The Section 8 complex, which lost its stairwells on day two due to a $200 fire code variance filed in 2019 and which has been improvising extraordinary solutions ever since. He watches all three. He has opinions about all three. His opinions correlate strongly with rent prices. Zombie Voyeur is a live journal. Dark comedy played completely straight. The class system didn’t end — it clarified. The narrator finds their own survival completely unremarkable and everyone else’s deeply informative. Helen disagrees, sparingly, which is how she stays useful. Posted daily. Read it like the news.
