Commissioner Keno is losing the war. His city is tearing itself apart, caught in the crossfire between a failing police force and the Backburns—a ruthless syndicate of fire-wielding extremists led by a charismatic terrorist named Kane. Desperate to protect the innocent and save the woman he loves, Keno uncovers an ancient, subterranean power. The White Gem offers him the strength to crush the rebellion and end the violence forever. But true peace requires absolute control, and to save his city, Keno is about to become a monster far worse than the ones he's hunting.
