STAR WARS: DIVERGENT

by Ra Black

Anti-Hero LeadWar and MilitarySci-fiStrong LeadDrama

During the height of the Clone Wars, a group of Jedi younglings travel to the icy world of Ilum to undertake The Gathering, the ancient trial where initiates must confront their fears and claim a Kyber Crystal to build their first lightsaber. Among them is Ronin Kast, a quiet and insecure youngling who struggles to keep up with his peers and fears failing the trial. Ronin’s only real support is Korra, a talented youngling from Naboo who shares a mysterious Force bond with him—something they must keep secret from the Jedi, as attachments are forbidden. While Korra excels, Ronin constantly doubts himself and worries he will fail the trial and be left behind while the others move on to become Padawans and fight in the war. Upon arriving on Ilum, the younglings must use the Force to clear a path through the snow and enter the ancient Jedi temple. Despite his fears, Ronin unexpectedly demonstrates strong Force abilities, clearing an entire path with a single focused effort. Inside the crystal caves, each youngling faces a personal trial. Ronin is confronted by a dark manifestation that mocks his weakness and tempts him toward the Dark Side. Forced to rely on his instincts and connection to the Force, Ronin overcomes the illusion, proving that his strength lies not in power but in determination and belief in himself. After navigating the trials, Ronin discovers his Kyber Crystal—a blue one that briefly flashes red, hinting at a deeper conflict within him. Despite the unsettling moment, the crystal ultimately settles into a calm blue glow. Back aboard their ship, the younglings construct their lightsabers. Ronin builds a dark, jagged hilt reflecting his intense personality, while Korra crafts two sabers, including one designed to mirror his. Fearing that becoming Padawans will separate them forever, the two secretly exchange parts of their lightsabers so that a piece of each will always remain with the other. When the younglings ignite their newly built lightsabers together, Ronin realizes he has finally overcome his doubts. For the first time, he feels worthy of the path ahead—and ready to become a Jedi.
