Roderick Vale is a failure. In a family of Gravity mages, his only talent is turning expensive linseed oil into charcoal-smudged garbage. His brother hates him, his mom pities him, and his "masterpiece" of a noble knight looks like a stickman with a stroke. Then the stickman stepped off the canvas. It’s 2D, it smells like wet paint, and it makes the sound of tearing flesh. When the System greets Roderick, it doesn't give him fireballs or flight. It gives him the power to bring his own neurological disasters to life. Gildenfall isn't ready for an army of sentient scribbles, and honestly, neither is Roderick.
