River was screwed. His first away mission was supposed to be exciting, help develop his PhD, and jump start his career. Instead, he was on a one-way trip to the apocalypse. The Eridani System’s only inhabited planet had gone dark, all its modern urban centers gone, replaced by medieval towns, castles, and old-school farmland, as if the entire planet decided to return to the dark ages. Thrust into an RPG game when the team lands on the surface, each is given a race, class, and fantasy-appropriate clothing. With no way to contact the ship, no rules or guides, they have little choice but to play – and stay alive long enough to figure out what’s going on and try to stop it before it takes over Earth. *** What to expect: - this is like Star Trek crashes into a D&D game world (though neither of those franchises; no phasers or transporters) - first person narrative - a system apocal-, ah, sorry, can't type that. Uhm, a system armageddon! Syspoc? It's a syspoc. Trigger Warnings: - death, profanity, light romance and sex, bad jokes, spelling and grammar mistakes probably (totally appreciate the head's up on these!) *** Cover by Artur (Spatuzzi Designs)
