Deviant Protocol

Deviant Protocol

by KR0SS

LitRPGPortal Fantasy / IsekaiProgressionPost ApocalypticSci-fi

The world doesn’t end. It updates. In a single synchronized moment, every connected device on Earth activates. Phones, satellites, implants, servers—everything runs the same process: User Classification. People aren’t killed. They’re sorted. Some become Heroes—cleanly integrated, system-approved, given classes, structure, purpose. Some become Monsters—their bodies rewritten by their own patterns, addictions, and fractured identities, fused with corrupted technology. Some become NPCs—passive, stable, barely aware. And a few… fail classification. The main character is one of them. Midway through modifying a device at the exact moment the system installs, his hardware and the Network collide. The process doesn’t complete. The system can’t overwrite him properly. He is labeled: Deviant. He isn’t granted a normal class. He isn’t fully locked out either. Instead, he’s given restricted access to something unstable: Tech Architect. He doesn’t cast abilities. He doesn’t command machines. He understands them—instantly, physically—and forces them to behave in ways they shouldn’t. At first, it’s small.A failing battery pushed past its limit.A servo locking at the wrong moment.A broken system holding together just long enough to matter. While heroes organize and monsters spread across the city in controlled territories, he survives in between—untrusted, flagged, watched. He builds instead of fights. Scavenged parts turn into tools.Tools turn into weapons.Weapons turn into systems. And the more he builds, the more the world reacts. Heroes begin to monitor him.Monsters begin to prioritize him.The system begins to log him. Because Deviants aren’t supposed to scale. As the city fractures into districts controlled by evolving monsters, and hero coalitions try to impose order, he becomes something neither side can account for— not the strongest fighter, but the one who changes how fights are won. Over time, his constructs grow.Exosuits. Drones. Defensive grids.Eventually, machines large enough to challenge creatures that reshape entire regions. But every upgrade comes from the same source: Monsters. Their bodies. Their cores. Their systems. And the line between using them… and becoming them… doesn’t stay clean. While the Network continues to evolve—through satellites, system anomalies, and entities far beyond the city—the question shifts: Not how to survive the system. But whether it should exist at all. And whether someone the system failed to understand is the only one who can rewrite it.
