Kael Voss is a freight runner. No affinity. No rank worth posting. No name anyone at the Gatehouse bothers to remember. He hauls cargo across a frontier that eats men like him for sport — men who were born with nothing, classified as nothing, and are expected to die in that nothing without making a fuss. The Empire's Affinity Classification System sorted him at birth, found nothing of value, and moved on. So has everyone else. Then a Dungeon Surge puts a creature in his path that should have killed him in three seconds flat. Instead, Kael does something — he doesn't even have a name for it — and the creature drops. The Imperial System registers the kill. Spins its wheels. Outputs a rank. The Guild hands him an F-rank, a charity coin, and a sympathetic look toward the signals-work board. They assume it was a fluke. A quirk in the data. A rounding error with a pulse. They are not entirely wrong about what he is. They are catastrophically wrong about what that means.
