In a world where most of humanity lives unaware of the forces that protect them, there are those born with the ability to channel Aether — a fundamental energy connecting the human world to a dark dimension known as the Void Realm.
They are trained at Astra Academy, an elite school floating above the clouds, where future Guardians are forged into the last line of defense between humanity and the monsters that seek to tear the world apart.
The sorting system is simple: touch the Crystal, and it places you where you belong.
Raka Arden touched the Crystal — and the Crystal cracked.
Along with six other students whose abilities defied every known category, Raka is assigned to Dormitory Number Seven — widely regarded as the academy's dumping ground, a home for those the system couldn't make sense of. The other students call them rejects. The academy treats them as an afterthought. Even their common room door hangs slightly crooked.
But the classification system is three hundred years old. And there is a reason these particular powers haven't appeared in three hundred years.
Their abilities are not anomalies. They are a legacy.
Centuries ago, seven Guardians with powers beyond classification stood against a force that nearly destroyed both worlds. They won. Barely. And the entity they defeated — Arkhavel, sovereign of the Void — was sealed away, not destroyed.
Now the seal is weakening.
Arkhavel's return requires one specific thing: the energy signature of rare, unclassifiable Aether — the kind that cannot be sorted, cannot be contained, and cannot be found anywhere in Astra Academy except in the seven students everyone has already written off.
Dormitory Number Seven didn't ask to matter. They didn't ask to carry the weight of a war that ended before their grandparents were born. They just wanted to get through the year without the rest of the academy laughing at them.
The world, unfortunately, has other plans.
