Willington is the most advanced city in the world. A symbol of modern society, technology, order, and functionality. A strict dictatorship divides its people into so-called “levels” based on their value. Freedom is a luxury; movement is a privilege. Yet there are people known as levelbreakers who are able to move between the city’s strictly divided districts without being detected by the all-seeing AI that controls the entire city. Amber is one of them—a woman who has been an exceptional hacker since childhood. Living on the fringes of society, she struggles with loneliness in this cruel world. She tries to survive even though she has no reason to, and as one of the levelbreakers she stands against the entire city. On the opposite side of the system is Cassian—a corporate slave who spends most of his time locked in a cubicle, doing dirty work and operating on the edge of the law in order to protect a worldwide corporation that holds half the city in its grip. His career is his only hope. But when their paths cross, the foundations of the city of Willington begin to shake, and they become enemies of the dictatorial council. Both of them will have to fight their way through a web of dangerous technology and the roar of jazz to reach the freedom that may be waiting beyond the city’s borders.
