ActionComedyFantasyLitRPGMale Lead
Every day, the probability that the world ends increases.
The person responsible is a 91-year-old former head of state with a Wikipedia page and a handshake with every world leader alive. He knows exactly what he's doing. Nobody knows why.
The people inside his system can see the percentage climbing. They can't say it directly. They try anyway — through numbers on screens, through words on bills, through the last things monsters say before they disappear.
Ren Sakurai doesn't know any of this. He works the night shift at a convenience store. He eats taquitos off a roller grill that haven't been fresh since the day shift and goes home at 8 AM to an apartment where the couch is also the bed.
Then a man starts showing up at exactly 3:33 AM. Every night. Same barbecue chips. Same $5 bill. Writing on the back that doesn't make sense yet.
A system unlocks from the store monitor. Ren gets a class called Observer — built around watching, not hitting. His fights are puzzles. His enemies each have one gimmick and he has to figure it out before it kills him. The system pays him in cash based on how efficiently he wins, and efficiency means using as little effort as possible. Laziness is literally the optimal strategy.
He bought a mattress. He's eating real food. A girl shows up at 2 AM sometimes and knows his name. For the first time in his life, things are moving in the right direction.
Everything around him is trying to tell him what's actually happening. He's too busy leveling up to notice.
