AEGIS: The Alpha Born

AEGIS: The Alpha Born

"If defense falls, humanity falls." That's AEGIS's promise. So far, they've kept it. The Seventeen-Day Event didn't end the world. It just ended the one we knew. What rose from the silence was colder, sharper, and far more deliberate. The United Human Authority, built from the bones of every nation that came before it, didn't promise freedom. It promised survival. And for most people, that's enough. For some, the choice was never theirs to make. Kael and Mira were selected, trained, and shaped by an institution that measures success in who survives and why. He moves fast, reads a situation before it finishes forming, and acts. It's kept him alive. It's also cost him. She is still where others flinch, runs the numbers before anyone else has thought to ask the question, and gives nothing away. They see the world differently. They always have. Out in the Contaminated Zones, none of that matters. What matters is that Carcids are blind, and they find you anyway. They don't need eyes when they can track a heartbeat that's running just a little too fast. Conventional militaries tried operating in the Zones once. They don't anymore. That's what AEGIS is for. That's what Kael and Mira were made for. Whether that's enough is a different question entirely. What to expect: Deep World-Building. A society that genuinely works, which somehow makes it more unsettling than a straightforward dystopia. Military Sci-Fi and Institutional Life. The kind of training that breaks people down before it builds them back up, and what it leaves behind in the people who come out the other side. Complementary Leads. Instinct versus calculation. Neither one is wrong. Neither one is enough alone. Survival Horror. Enemies that don't roar or charge. They wait. They listen. They find you anyway. Slow-Burn Tension. Built in the margins, in shared exhaustion and the specific trust that only comes from having someone watch your back when it actually mattered.
