Vasily Butylkin (Litrovich), a former alcoholic, finds his true calling: science! Inspired by an old crop-duster plane and a mysterious 1827 "Treatise on Interdimensional Transitions," Vasily declares war on the speed of light. His mission demands genius, so he recruits Innokenty the Blacksmith — the most educated man in the village, who knows how to fix manure pumps. Together, they construct a Hyper-relativistic Engine from a captured Wehrmacht barrel and a spacesuit made from a stolen quilted blanket and a stolen multicooker. While his wife, Agrafena Derdamedonovna, proudly builds his image as the "HYPERSPACE BREAKER," Vasily prepares for his first flight. What could possibly go wrong when the first cosmonaut, protected by horse dung, presses the button?
