Humanity gave everything it had, but its efforts failed to fend off the Valyr. The world of men, with all of its technology and splendor, fell a century ago. Now, there is no one left to fight the invaders and their overwhelming magic. No one except Esteban. A lowly laborer stripped of everything, Esteban had nothing left to live for. He would have gladly accepted death, but something in him refused to let go. Hate. A burning, blinding hate that begged for vengeance beyond his reach. In the depth of darkness, an eye opened. It fell upon him, and it offered its hand. A bargain was struck. Esteban did not truly understand the choice that lay before him. But he did not need to understand. He only needed to see them all burn.
