The Dream Language

The Dream Language

by Atharva Sharma 870

ComedyRomance

The Dream LanguageA story about two people who never planned to fall for each other. Arav had already learned one important lesson about love before college: sometimes, getting attached means getting hurt. So when he entered college, he made a quiet promise to himself—no relationships, no complications, and definitely no falling in love. Then Maggie happened. They weren't supposed to become anything special. At first, they were just two students who happened to cross paths. Different personalities, different friend circles, and two completely different ways of looking at life. But somewhere between college events, endless conversations, ridiculous arguments, late-night chats, and moments that neither of them planned, an unexpected friendship began to grow. What makes their story different isn't a grand love confession. It's the little things. The way Arav notices when Maggie isn't around. The way Maggie worries about him but refuses to admit why. The way they can spend hours together doing absolutely nothing and still have the best time. The jokes. The fights. The teasing. The unforgettable nights. And the people around them who seem to understand their relationship long before they do. To everyone else, it's obvious. To Arav and Maggie... They're just friends. But friendship has a strange way of changing when one person starts becoming the first person you look for in a crowd, the first person you want to tell everything to, and the person whose absence suddenly feels a little too noticeable. As their college journey continues, Arav finds himself caught between the promise he made to never fall in love again and a girl who is slowly becoming impossible to ignore. Maggie, meanwhile, has her own questions. Does she simply enjoy his company? Is it just their friendship? Or is there something neither of them is brave enough to name? The Dream Language is the first part of a story about friendship before love, feelings before confessions, and two people who may be falling for each other without even realizing it. Because sometimes... the strongest love stories don't begin with "I love you." They begin with: "We're just friends."

Both levers trail the field

Traffic and conversion are both below comparable stories. Cadence is the first lever — stories posting near-daily reached 25 followers 17% of the time; stories posting every few days almost never did. Get the flow going, then re-check conversion.

Benchmarks: 8,060 active Royal Road stories, percentiles within the 20–49 chapters band, cohort of 2026-07-02. Conversion is measured as followers gained per 1,000 views over the recent window.
