With each step east, he feels the cylinder’s ancient magic pulsing against his own—changing him, attuning him to powers older than the kingdoms at war. Upon reaching Luminara, the City of Light, Eli delivers the cylinder to Aldric Voss, a craftsman and ally within the resistance. There, he meets Vera Silver, an Academy instructor and political moderate working to stop the weapon’s completion. As Eli enters the Luminari Mage Academy to train his long-suppressed magic, he learns that his connection to the cylinder’s ancient core is unique—and may be the key to disrupting the weapon’s calibration before it can be fired.
