The Forsaken Cowboy

Mark Antonio Miller signs up for the Army at eighteen and comes back from Iraq with more baggage than medals and absolutely no idea how to live a normal life. Whatever discipline the Army tried to teach him didn’t stick. Over the next few years, Mark drifts through careers, cities, relationships, and at least one attempt at respectable adulthood. Sometimes he’s a fighter, sometimes a writer, sometimes a husband, sometimes a walking disaster. Bisexual, reckless, and never short on complicated relationships, he has a talent for landing on his feet and an even bigger talent for ruining things once he gets comfortable. The people around him tend to get pulled into the chaos, whether they planned to or not. What should have been a messy but ordinary downward spiral turns into something bigger when Mark’s past starts linking up with powerful people, dangerous interests, and questions about his own background that nobody ever answered properly. The more he tries to ignore it, the harder it becomes to pretend his life is just bad luck. The story follows Mark through these years as he fights, drinks, loves, screws up, survives things he probably shouldn’t, and slowly realizes that the mess around him isn’t random — and that sooner or later he’s going to have to face it head-on.
