The Last Guard

Amid the fractured landscape of the North and South, torn by the unending Warlord Era, Hirion, a soldier of the fabled Guards of Warlord Veyu, is forced to flee south after the collapse of his homeland. Months of exile in the hands of the unforgiving winter mountains leave him devastated, lost, and on the verge of death, until he collapses before a humble cabin. There, he is taken in by Yun Soryn, a revolutionary leader determined to overthrow the oppressive Warlord Xi’an and the Domain of Xi’a.  As Hirion recovers, he finds himself drawn into the revolution, entrusted with training and leading its fighters with the skills he has amassed from the North. Yet the battles ahead are as much internal as external: for he must confront the guilt of survival, even as he learns to command loyalty and instil hope among the revolutionaries who dream of a new government beyond the Warlordships. Against the relentless reach of the Domain of Xi’a and the pressures from rival revolutionary factions, Hirion’s journey becomes one of redemption, strategy, and the forging of a new destiny in a land where he exists as a stranger.
