An amateur journalist in western Pennsylvania is beginning to think that he's stumbled upon the story that will make his career. A coworker provides their small-time paper with a lead on an eye-catching development. A strange new religious movement is spreading through the Appalachian foothills, intriguing many, and terrifying others. As the aspiring young newshound starts pulling the threads to unravel the tale of this new movement, he finds desperation, fanaticism, and even otherworldly influences waiting for him and his crew in those dark hills.
