Sarajevo, November 1995. Fifteen-year-old Victor Kenzaki finds himself at the epicenter of a punitive operation carried out by the Ishikawa Squad, the leader of the shadowy organization "Axis of Innovation." Victor's grandfather, Hiroshi, a former Axis biochemist, reveals to his grandson the truth he's kept hidden for half a century: the secret of their power is a serum created from the processed agony of hundreds of victims in World War II laboratories. To save his girlfriend, Anya, kidnapped by Isshin, Victor agrees to a terrifying symbiosis. He becomes the pilot of the "Iron Angel," an ancient exoskeleton that inserts needles into the nervous system. Victor vanishes, transforming into a Ghost, clad in void-colored armor coated with an experimental compound that absorbs light.
